If the bone grafting can be undertaken at the same time that the dental implants are placed, treatment is more likely to take six to twelve months. It can take between 6 weeks and several months for the jaw bone to completely heal around the implant, when we can place your custom crown. ![]() We'll schedule another appointment after 1 week so we can remove your stitches and check that your jaw and gum are starting to heal. We'll place a temporary crown or removable denture over the implant screw. ![]() This involves making an incision in your gum, which will then be closed with stitches. We'll then give you a local anaesthetic or other sedative to numb pain and help you feel calm while we place the implant in your jaw. If you need a bone grafting or augmentation procedure, this will need to be scheduled separately and your jaw given time to heal before an implant can be placed. On your first appointment, we'll examine your mouth and take x-rays and a CT scan to determine the precise positioning of your implant. Placing an implant involves several appointments.
